OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge is where fun and learning come together to create a great museum experience for children and families. The Children’s Museum is a regional family museum with something of interest for all ages. More than 20 exhibits include Appalachian History, Oak Ridge History, International Cultures, Natural Sciences, World of Trains, TVA Waterworks, a life-size Dollhouse, a Rainforest and an upcoming Dinosaurs, Rocks and Fossils Exhibit.
Classes are presented year round at the museum and in outreach programs in the arts, sciences, history, world cultures and other fun and engaging subjects. The Museum’s After School Club offers enriching experiences for neighborhood children covering areas such as life-skills, careers, music, drama, arts & crafts and other great subjects. School and summer camp tours from surrounding counties are booked throughout the year and are a wonderful source for enriching school and camp curriculums. The Children’s Museum also has Traveling Trunks available for teachers that correspond to museum exhibits filled with artifacts, lesson plans and other activities. An extensive summer camp program, Imagination Station, offers seven weeks of full-day and half-day camps for ages 3-12 years. A teen volunteer program provides leadership experiences for ages 13 – 19 as they learn about museum operations, assist teachers with classes and camps and use their talents and skills to help museum staff with special projects.
Special annual events families enjoy include International Festival, Holiday in the Mountains, and Celebration of the Young Child. In addition, special guests and musicians such as John McCutcheon offer family fun and entertainment throughout the year.
