With a free Art Center, the oldest continually-operating Community Theater in the country, a Symphony & Chorus and a Community Orchestra, we’re more than just an historic destination.
The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge is a dynamic cultural center that features innovative exhibitions, programs and workshops for all ages. Science, art and history are emphasized in hands-on learning opportunities that encourage young people to understand their cultural heritage, environment and the world around them. Open seven days a week, the Oak Ridge Art Center, a regional fine arts museum, reaches out to the community and region through creative visual arts programs including numerous exhibitions, art and craft classes, educational public programs, and special events.
The Art Center has a very active education program, offering regular sessions of classes, many workshops, seminars, a monthly video luncheon called Art a la Carte, gallery talks and tours, and special programs throughout the year. Classes in all creative endeavors awaken the spirit of the individual and the universality of the experiences of every man.
The Art Center offers classes and workshops for all ages and levels of expertise. Classes include, but are not limited to: oil painting; watercolor; pastels; porcelain painting; drawing; various types of ceramics such as hand built and/or wheel thrown pottery; papermaking; art history; collage; and sculpture.

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association was established in 1943, when Oak Ridge was a brand new city built by the U.S. government to develop the fuel for the atomic bomb. Visitors can still enjoy many performances throughout the year by talented vocational and professional musicians of the Oak Ridge Symphony and Oak Ridge Chorus. The Oak Ridge Playhouse and Junior Playhouse is one of the oldest continually-operating community theaters in the country. In its 63rd year, the playhouse is a professionally-managed volunteer organization, which produces a diverse annual season of musicals, plays and children's theatre for audiences and participants of all ages.
