International Friendship Bell

Hours: All Day
Details: The first monument between a U.S. Manhattan Project city and Japan, the bell serves as an expression of hope for everlasting peace.

Oak Ridge Art Center

Details: Permanent collection of contemporary international artists as well as rotating exhibits of local and regional artists.

East Tennessee Technology Park Overlook
(Formerly K-25 WWII Manhattan Project Facility)

Hours: Dawn till Dusk
Details: View the historic former Manhattan Project facility in this overlook that features pictures, historic displays and a video. The K-25 facility was the largest building in the world under one roof during its time. This facility was built to separate uranium 235 from uranium 238 by using the gaseous diffusion process.

The Secret City Commemorative Walk

Hours: All Day
Details: This scenic walk tells the story of more thank 100,000 people who came here at the call of their nation to take part in a top-secret work project during WWII. Beautiful monuments and the Founders’ Walls pay tribute to the many men and women who made great sacrifices and contributions to the success of the Manhattan Project.

University of Tennessee Arboretum

Hours: Grounds open till dusk
Details: The arboretum offers more than 250 acres featuring 800 species of trees, shrubs, and flowering plants threaded by four nature trails. Recognized as an official wildlife observation area.

Wheat Community African Burial Ground

Hours: Dawn till Dusk
Details: Believed to be part of the Gallaher-Stone Plantation, this 1850’s slave cemetery has more than 90 unmarked graves. Includes a beautiful monument in memory of those held in bondage.

Haw Ridge Park

Hours: Dawn till Dusk
Details: A great recreation site that is perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and Geocaching. This site also serves as the home to the Life Development Center.

Melton Hill Lake

Hours: All Day
Details: Melton Hill Lake is nationally known as one of the best 2,000 meter rowing courses in the U.S. Every March – April, thousands of rowers joins us for Spring Training. The Oak Ridge Rowing Association also hosts a number of regattas including the upcoming NCAA Women’s Championships in May 2007. A nice paved walking trail runs along side the river so pedestrians can meander at their own pace and enjoy the scenic beauty of the water and possibly see some rowers practicing on the water.
