“LISE MEITNER – WOMAN OF SCIENCE” American Museum of Science & Energy, (865) 576-3200 A traveling exhibition from the National Atomic Museum, is a brief history of Lise Meitner’s life and work. In 1918, Dr. Lise Meitner, together with Otto Hahn, discovered the radioactive element protactinium (element 91). In December 1938, Lise provided the physical explanation of results obtained by Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann in their chemical experiments. Her contributions helped lead to the discovery of nuclear fission, and to our understanding of the fundamental structure of nature. | July 4 | Celebration on the 4th Melton Lake Park A full day of activities is planned both on and off the water. Many activities for the entire family including a giant inflatable fire engine, regional music acts including Mic Harrison, formerly of the V-Roys and Superdrag, wake board competitions, boat displays, helicopter flyovers by Air-Evac Lifeteam, ending with an exciting fireworks display by the Oak Ridge Fire Department. “Celebration on the 4th” will start at 2:30 p.m. with a wakeboard competition. The musical entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. and the fireworks conclude the evening at 10 p.m. |

Anvils will be shot at 10 a.m., 12 noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, there will be demonstrations of other traditional activities such as open-hearth cooking, wood carving, blacksmithing, saw milling, rail spliting, crosscut sawing, spinning, and buggy rides. Old Time music will be played and sung on the porches of the cabins and in the old log church. The demonstrations and music can be found throughout the 65-acre farm/village complex. |

A cartoon video room and Halloween bingo are free to participants. Refreshments are available; prices begin at 50¢. An adventure room will be available to tour and the cost is 50¢. | December 13 | 6th Annual Holiday Homecoming Norris Dam State Park, 4 pm – 9 pm Celebrate the Holidays by strolling through the decorated cabins at Norris Dam State Park. The cabins will be decorated in different themes that depict a different Tennessee Holiday homecoming. Christmas Caroling and craft making will also be occurring throughout the cabin area. There will be old time music in the Tea Room where Santa will also be available for taking wish list and pictures. |
